Best-of-the-best
Review by: 2BLKII

This is my second pair of, Maui Jim's [my first pair were the 501's] but these, the [Banyan's], by-far, are the best fitting. I agree with one of the reviews- "those who are hard to fit, need-not look any further". Very very comfortable, light-weight, stylish, with a lens quality superior to what's out there. The polarized technology employed by, Maui Jim is what sets these glasses apart. Bright sunlight- no problem. Ocean glare- non-existent. Beach reflection off sand- solved, and, after having them on for any length of time, feels like not having them on at all. But take them off, and you notice an absence immediately. Yes, I'd recommend them, wholeheartedly.

Hooked on my 1st MJ
Review by: malteser

Before I bought the Banyans, last week from a duty free shop in the UK, I had never heard of Maui Jim. Malta is a small island and therefore a small market. Now I'm more than glad I bought these MJ's to replace my tired sunglasses.
These have proven to be a complete revelation to me. I could never imagine the clarity of the surroundings before I wore these during driving, walking or on the beach. The contrast is incredible.
During driving, the glare from windscreens is reduced to a sun spot and the way they envelope my face (face shape is roundish) is incredible. This helps in removing the glare and sun from the sides letting my facial muscles relax, unlike before with my old sunglasses (which were also expensive and are of a reputable brand).
Summers here tend to be cloudless, with a lot of bright sunshine and a UV index of 10 or 11+. So good eyewear is more than important, its indispensable!
My last comment is "I cannot get enough of wearing these incredible sunglasses!"

Love Em
Review by: LeePA

My banyans do an excellent job of minimizing the light "leaking" in between the edges of the glasses and my face while remaining stylish. They wrap around the face and temples very well without looking like a "shield." And the lenses are outstanding. Definitely worth the money.

Best Lens I've Tried
Review by: Gamecock

Purchased these to replace my Oakley Half Jackets (Polarized as well) that ended up in the river I was tubing down with my son. I was gonna get the Oakley Flak Jackets but the sales girl turned me on to these. They are just as light and I liked the lenses better in the light. They really make the colors "Pop" and stand out. Having lenses that are vented and won't fog up also was a great feature as I'm on the water along and will also be doing some running in them. The only knock is that you can't switch out the lenses, but the warranty is better and I have heard great stories about Maui Jim's customer service. I think I made the right decision and saved a few bucks as well over the Oakley's

Met all the expectations...and the hype.
Review by: mthr1

I've been a long time Oakley owner...and still am. After losing my x-metal Oakleys, I went hunting for a replacement. Ended up getting a pair of Flak Jackets. They were nice. Good, typical Oakley optics. While at my eyewear store, the clerk was suggesting that I also check out the MJs. Not having any real prior experience with MJ glasses, nor educated much with their line, I test drove some of their models blind.

I really liked my initial impression of them. I tried on a pair of Hookipia (sp?), Makala, and Banyans...made some mental notes and went home to do some research and get more familiar with the Maui Jim story.

A week later, I returned and got the Banyans with the HT lenses. My intention was to use the MJs as my primary driving glasses, while my Oakleys served a different purpose.

Man, I really like these glasses. The optics are very VERY clear and the HT lenses does a great job amplifying contrast and color rendering. From an engineering standpoint, I see why some people would be bothered by the nose bridge mounting. It can be obtrusive to some people as it does begin to enter the wearer's sight plane. For ME, however, it doesn't bother me and my eyes never appear to be drawn to the bridge/lens mounts inadvertingly.

The glasses are VERY light and feel EXTREMELY comfortable, especially if you have a wider face. The Banyans seem to feel more solid as opposed to the Hookipias and Makalas. Slight bit heavier, but I imagine the Evolution glass hybrid lenses are to blame for that. The wraparound design of the Banyan lenses are very nice too as it has excellent coverage.

I know a lot of the reviews (the negative ones, at least) complain mostly of the bridge mount being too obtrusive. To some, I am sure it is a significant problem, but others (like me), do not notice them at all and does very little to affect my sight plane when I drive.

My suggestion...try it and see if it's compatible with your focal habits. If it doesn't bother you, I firmly believe you will love these glasses.

Only glasses I have ever kept
Review by: Soflajules

I am 44 yeras old. I have had Lasik on my eyes and never really felt good wearing sunglasses primarily because they tire my eyes out after just a while. The Banyans with the HT lens are the only lenses I have been able to wear all day. You forget you have them on, and they do not tire my eyes at all. They are excellent.
