Lenses

Neutral Grey: Perfect for especially bright, direct sunlight. Offers rich color and contrast along with the highest available light production, unlike ordinary grey lenses that flatten light evenly across the spectrum.

HCL® Bronze: For everyday variable conditions, from full sun to overcast. Provides excellent contrast. Great if you love a warm, subtle bronze tint.

Maui HT™: High-Transmission for times when most lenses would be too dark — sharper contrast and more vibrant color for early morning, late afternoon and foggy days. Heightens contrast and depth of field so that low light is perceived with new vibrancy.

PolarizedPlus®2: In every pair of Maui Jims you’ll find our patented, color-infused lens technology that wipes out 99.9% of glare, 100% of harmful UV and boosts color via specially designed lens treatments. So your view is clearer, with crisper contrast and amazing brilliance.

Maui Evolution®: When you need an everyday lens for your active life, look to the lens that fuses the best properties of SuperThin glass and polycarbonate. Extremely lightweight. Scratch- and impact-resistant. Patented lens treatments bring the world’s true colors to life. With the high-performance optics you need to keep up with your outdoor sports.

CLEARSHELL® Scratch Coating: A proprietary, silicone-based hard coat that protects your lenses. Glass is naturally scratch-resistant but Maui Evolution and polycarbonate lenses perform better longer with the added durability of our optically correct Clearshell. Applied to front and back of the lens.

Sunglasses came a long way!

Just received my pair yesterday. The MJ big beach is very light weight and feels great on my face. The clarity seeing through the lense wearing it indoor or outdoor is exceptional. The reason I chose MJ instead of Costa was the fact that most of MJ do have the adjustable nose piece that is adaptable to my face. Which is a big plus for me otherwise the lenses would be touching my upper cheeks. Can't waite to get on the tennis court with my MJ on. Not olny will I be playing well in the bright sun; I will also be styling as well! ;-)

Had my pair since 2008. Love them, love them, love them. They are a perfect wrap-around frame for my face and the clarity on the golf course or water sports is UNBELIEVABLE! I have always had a POSITIVE experieince with the Maui Jim techicians when a quick, inexpensive repair or new lens replacement is needed. Placing them in their case is so inportant when not wearing them but with anything the better care you take the happier you will be with the product when using it.

Crisp Colors
Review by: ElSal

Crisp and clean colors under the sun, great light weight sunglasses you wont want to take off you face and nice design. Only thing that take a little extra time is cleaning off the lens since they are rimless and twisty. Also the glasses must be stored in case when you take them off because the curved in legs and this also prevents them you from putting them on with only one hand. However, overall they are very cool and the lens quality is exceptional.

Big Beach - Big Style Big Value simply the best
Review by: Burndengreen

Maui Jim Big Beach HT Review !!

Well what can I say, Have you ever tried the Maui Jim HT lenses ?
No ! Well you simply do not know what you are missing. I had the great good fortune to take a pair of Big Beach fitted with HT lenses (HT518-02) to Panorama ski resort British Columbia Canada for a 10 day holiday.
I shall break down my review into the look of the glasses, usability, performance under various conditions, value for money.

LOOK

The Big Beach style is probably suited more to someone with a larger face than I, having said that they do not look totally out of place. My other Maui Jims are ones from the sport range (including Makaha and Kanaha) which are of course a different style , so compared to the compactness of these two styles the Big Beach looks larger but a lot of that is certainly down to the wrap round style.

Usability

Once you get used to the fact that the legs on the glasses are naturally springy then usability is no problem. I have now used these for Skiing, golfing and cycle riding and it s fair to say I would not now consider wearing any other glasses. They hug very nicely to my handsome face (alright I made the handsome bit up) and even when I managed to take a tumble or two on the slopes they never left my face. In one particular spectacular tumble I went down and the space between glasses and face was filled with lovely powder snow but the glasses never budged. The glasses do have a tendency to mist up slightly if you stand still and you are a little warm but as soon as you move off this slight misting disappears, this happens with all glasses which are snug fitting so not really an issue more a comment.

Performance

This is where the glasses really come into there own. I own a pair of performance ski goggles which I use in snowy and flat light conditions. I skied every day for 9 days in the HT big beach lenses and never had a problem, in fact they fully optimize whatever light is available whilst still cutting down on the glare. One particular ski day it was bouncing down with snow everyone and I mean everyone on the mountain had goggles on !! Not Me. I am sure people must have thought I was some kind of weirdo rock/film star but I can assure you my vision was completely un-impaired. The other three folks in our party tried them and could not believe how good the vision was. I played golf in them a couple of days after my return and sadly they did not make me play any better, I guess that s down to lack of ability on my part rather than a deficiency in the glasses. I also cycle to work (a 23 mile round trip) . They are great in the morning as I travel East and am mainly cycling into the low sun, and at night time the light conditions are changing constantly yet It goes relatively unnoticed as they seem to just adjust to the conditions. I am shortly doing a 60 mile cycle ride to raise funds for our local hospice and they will certainly be coming with me, I may not be the fastest cyclist but I will look the best.
I think its fair to say the performance is much more than even I could have anticipated.

Value for Money.

The HT lens are not the cheapest , there is no getting away from that - if you want cheap you will get cheap ! These are inexpensive given the undoubted quality. All things considered they are worth every penny. All you skiers out there ditch the goggles now and go for a pair of these , you will not regret it !
All you golfers and bikers go for it these are fantastic. I now have four pair of MJ s and my wife has a pair of Makaha so I believe I am fairly well qualified to speak of the merits and I would choose the Big Beach with HT lens over any of my other MJ s and I love every pair. Do yourself a favour just BUY A PAIR.

SUMMARY

I am very loathe to give any product full marks but with these I will make an exception , choose a number 5, 10 100 these beauties achieve whatever top mark you want. In a word exceptional.

great glasses
Review by: meloncolly

another great pair of glasses by maui jim! they look great, you can barely feel them while they are on, and the new curvature of the lens covers the side of your eyes so that light wont get you, which has been a problem for me with other rim-less glasses. Ray-Ban see ya later, I'm with maui now!

Love them but would not recommend them
Review by: Nickolas

I love the look, the feel and overall styling, however their reliability is very poor. My first set warped during the first summer when I left them in teh car. My repalcement set, the arm cracked and broke after about a year.

Great sunglasses- Excellent for large faces
Review by: BigC

Big Beach is truly an outstanding pair of big guy sunglasses, they are flexible enough to accommodate medium to XL face sizes. I am 6'5" and wear a size 8 hat, they fit great. I received them last week and have worn them every moment I have been outside. They are so light you can barely feel them. The lenses provide great coverage without looking huge and perform very well on both sunny and overcast days. I have worn them driving, exercising, at the beach and working out doors. They are excellent.

My sunglasses have prescription lenses and they took about a week to receive after ordering. For those who use a flexible medical spending account, prescription sunglasses can be charged against the account - that means tax-free money can be used to pay for these.

I have had other Maui Jim sunglasses and my experience has always been excellent. Maui Jim has repaired broken lenses and smashed frames for me at a minimal cost. Don't do anything silly like a previous reviewer and leave your sunglasses on the dash of your car to bake. These are high quality sunglasses that will perform better for you than any other sunglasses on the market if you take care of them.

My wife and I had purchased sunglasses from a couple of other major companies in the past, their names start with O and R. We have wasted a lot of money and learned the hard way. Now we both only wear Maui Jim.

Not durable
Review by: rjcan

These glasses were light and comfortable and stayed on very well during sporting activities. The glasses did not last very long before they broke. The salesman from Sunglass Hut said they were virtually unbreakable which was not true. During normal use just puting them on and off they will break, it is enevitable. I took the first pair back after just less then 1 year after purchase and had them replaced with another new pair. The second pair lasted just about as long before they broke with only light use. For how much these glasses cost these are a waste of money.

As good as it gets
Review by: sparticus

I dont understand the negative reviews in regards to this style.I truly believe if there are reliability issues,it depends upon the beholders and the care they give to their glasses. After trying on and testing numerous amounts of styles in the past Twelve months, none came close to the big beach for style, appearance(vissual appeal),wrap around perimeter protection, lightweight comfort, and so far, durability. Ive had more ladies turn and almost snap off their necks looking at me,while wearing these glasses
