Suppurb lens. Great fit. Bad nose piece/bridge.
Review by: Dzulkifli -
First off, I love Maui Jim. Nobody makes a better pair of sunglasses. However, The Hanalei is an exception. The Evolution lens is top notch. The fit is great, good wrap, no pressure. That's where it ends. The nose piece/bridge of these glasses is quite obtrusive and distracting. Feels like a bug is perched between your eyes and he won't go away. This is really too bad, because I absolutely love these glasses for their quality and fit. However, I'll be returning them because of the poor design of the nosepiece/bridge. Seems to me that Maui Jim looked to make their new MJ Sport frames more robust and resistant to breakage. They should've found a better way to do this without reaching too far into the wearer's line of sight.

Thank You Jeebus

You forget you're wearing them seconds after you put them on, and when the light changes the landscape from a searing white hel l to a picture perfect Hawaian seascape, you wonder if a benevolent creator isn't shielding your eyes with a hand.

design flaw
Review by: 1bj2 -
I have purchased several pairs of these and have had the same problem w/ the nose pcs becoming loose or sliding off entirely. MJ has sent me new nose pcs to slide on but after a short period they do the same thing. Also where the lens attach to the frame needs to be more secure as this area will break --lens are great

Hanalei with HT lens - Excellent
Review by: kechman8 -
The skinny:
* HT lenses transmit the right amount of light for variable conditions.
* Hanalei frame style is snug, but comfortable - some people may find bottom of lense rubbing against face. Definitely try before you buy
* Overall very happy with purchase - HT lenses are perfect, in my opinion, for driving in bright sunlight or overcast condition.s
The fatty:
I own another pair of MJ's with neutral grey lens and luv'em but for driving around the Bay Area where there are frequently overcast conditions, they are just too dark . Wanted to buy another pair with lighter lenses and found that HT lenses are just perfect (tried them on in the store). There are only a few frame styles (the newer ones) that offer the HT lenses, so my choices were limited, but I liked the style of the Hanelei's the most. For those considering the Hanalei and other 'sport' style MJ frames, make sure you are ok with the wrap around style frames - they hug your face (by design) and I think are not for everyone (my wife being one of the 'nots'). Some folks may find them too snug - the lens bottom sometimes rub against my cheeks a bit, but I got used to them. Also, as some have noted, the extra large bridge reinforcement is somewhat noticeable, but I feel that it is not that intrusive, though I admit that for picky buyers, this may be a problem. Back to the HT lenses - they transmit just the right amount of light, in my opinion. I can go into a store with fluorescent lighting without removing them and see just fine - you know, sometimes you just want to keep them on or have your hands full and just can't take them off. I walk back into bright sunshine and don't notice a ton of glare. Maui Jim really ought to produce HT's for every frame style! Very satisfied overall with lense + frame.(Posted on 11/28/12)

The Best Glasses I've Ever Had
Review by: SebastopolMark -
I was recently in Maui, HI. strolling through Whalers Village and I went into the store killing time. I tied on a couple of different makers Ray Ban etc.
Then I tried on the Maui Jim's. WOW. I tried on the Hanalei Bronze pair and I cannot tell you how my eyes just relaxed. For me, it was remarkable these glasses tamed the glare. I will be using them outdoors so I like the silicone on the arms and rubber nose grips. They will keep them in place while bikeing and hiking.
They do mold around your head so make sure you try them on. For me, they are the perfect fit. I have had some of my friends try them on, and they did not fit their head and they were looking at a different model.
All of the people who tried on the glasses, coulnd't say enough about the lens quality and how they "tamed the glare"
There are by FAR the most I have paid for sunglasses, but now I question why I waited to long to get a pair.(Posted on 11/28/12)

the crossing
Review by: kingfish -
I did an Atlantic crossing a few years ago, Africa Brazil , America and so on.
My Ray Banns were wrecked within days the salt wrecked the lens.
My wife had a gift for me in Saint Helina, Napoleans prison island, Karin gave me a new pair of Maui Jim glasses.
I have to tell you 30 years of Ray Banns and never again would I purchase a pair again, the Maui Jim pair was just ten times the quality .
I could see the water like never before, I just got a new pair for my birthday, the old ones will be my fishing pair (for a while)
Maybe Maui Jim will slip a pair in the mail for my next trip which will be very soon!(Posted on 11/28/12)

Part of Me
Review by: Pollieathome -
These are the best sunglasses. My eyes used to burn especially at the beach. Now they are totally comfortable and these glasses are sporty and stylish. A great investment in my health. I also stepped on them recently while in ski boots and Maui Jim replaced just the lenses for me for half the cost of a new pair of sunglasses. I am a customer for life.
I run, bike, and sail. They go everywhere with me. I keep the case clipped to my purse.(Posted on 11/28/12)

Hanalei
Review by: 488ciV10 -
I owned my first pair of MJ's (Cyclones) for over 8 years. They were incredibly durable, but evenually developed some small lens scratches and were no longer serviceable. I bought the Hanaleis while on a trip with my wife this past spring. The optical quality is vastly superior to my Cyclones, and they are extremely light and comfortable to wear. I like the silicone grips behind the ears and nosepads. They really work well for strenuous outdoor activity with heavy perspiration.
If there is one major fault with the Hanaleis, it would have to be the oft-mentioned nose bridge screw bosses. I'm a hunter & target shooter, and the bosses are extremely intrusive to my sight picture when firing long guns. Dove hunting is usually best near sunup and sunset, where one definitely needs strong light and glare control. For this type of use, I would also suggest the consideration of wider lenses that cover more of the bridge of the nose and provide unobstructed views to the upper inside corner of the eye.
Also, I really have to pay attention to screw hinge screw torque on a regular basis.
My thanks and gratitude for outstanding products, design and support!(Posted on 11/28/12)

great quality sunglasses
Review by: GreatDane -
I have had Ray Ban,Oakley and Ralph Lauren and I like quality. My Hanalei black gloss pair fit me well for all my active running, biking and hiking. They relax my eyes and have excellent UV protection. The styling is nice and many ladies have complimented me on my new pair. I plan to buy another pair to keep at home, just in case I misplace this pair. I could not stand to be without them.
