design problem
Review by: jetjock -
Bought them after a recommendation. Style, weight and eye protection are unbelievable but there is a serious design problem. Regardles of how careful you are, the poly lens will crack on one or both sides and eventually break. I have 2 pair and have sent them back for repair both under and after warranty. MJ is glad to repair, but you can bet the ranch that it will happen again. My recommendation is that should you purchase these, wear them sparingly and always use both hands for on and off. They will still break but at least they will last longer. The repair department once told me that they were aware of the problem and would try to use less pressure at the attach points to help the problem. Buyer beware!

Love my Maui Jim's Ka'anapali - HCL Bronze
Review by: pussincat -
I purchased my first pair of Maui Jim's while on holiday in Orlando in March.
I loved the comfort - practically weightless with no pressure on the sides of the face.
I've been bragging about them since I've been home - having everyone try them to see for themselves how great they really are. The clarity is amazing in any light.
One thing I didn't expect is that they are super for driving in FOG!!! They take away the glare and make everything clearer which makes driving that much safer expecially when you can only see a few feet in front of you!!
I love these so much that I'm planning on getting a pair of Rx Maui's so I can enjoy reading when out in the sun.
Thank you Maui Jim for such a great, comfortable product.(Posted on 11/28/12)

#1 repair service, #1 in customer satisfaction
Review by: DrMooregreen -
Best sunglasses I have ever worn; light, great visibility, extremely durable. I bought my pair in Summer of 2007, they lasted great until December of 2009. They then were snagged on a doorway going into a stadium and the side piece unfortunately snapped in two. I was devastated by this unfortunate incident, and they sat on the self awaiting me finding my receipt. Come June of 2010 I still had not been able to track down my receipt and decided to give Maui Jim's service guys a call (being a broke college student I couldn't afford to buy another pair...). They said to send them in, including the $10 service fee and they would see what they could do for me. After only 8 days from sending them out, I got home from school with a surprise. Not only had they fixed my broken side piece, they also replaced both of my lenses and my other side piece. PRACTICALLY brand new glasses, they even sent them back to me in their new much cooler style case. Talk about going WAAAAY beyond the call of duty!!! THANK YOU MAUI JIM'S, you are the epitome of what and how businesses should run their service departments. I can't give you enough thanks and praise, I just wish I had sent them in sooner!!! Thank you again Maui Jim's for not only making the BEST glasses, but also being the #1 in customer service. I will be a Maui Jim's customer for life!!!!!

They will break
Review by: RobK -
I agree totally with the reviewer on 2 june 2010. First I will say I am a big fan of Maui Jim or at least I was but too many bad experiences is testing my loyalty. These are great glasses for all the reasons that others have said, lightweigt, comfortable, amazing lens etc BUT I have had two pairs and my girlfriends also had two pairs and everyone cracked on the lens where the arm is screwed in. This is a major design flaw and I'm amazed more people haven't commented on the same problem. I am pretty gentle with sunglasses especially after they broke the first time but the exact same thing happened again. My recommendation is DON'T buy them or if you do consider they will be short lived. To Maui Jims credit they did fix them at no cost but I suspect they have had this problem a lot. Unfortunately my next pair of Maui Jims (yes I perservered) were a different model also frameless with plastic arms and the arms have snapped on them twice as well. I suggest only go for metal and rimmed glasses. The lenses are awesome, pity they can't make the glasses to last more than 6 months. Good luck.

Brilliant but flawed
Review by: poll -
I have to say these glasses are the best ive ever had , unfortunately they have a design flaw .... My partners brother and I are both on our 3rd pair each as they keep splitting where the frame attaches on the nose piece . very frustrating but so far the outlet have replaced them each time with no problem .. I have to reiterate though .. when intact they are brilliant

Best lenses in the world
Review by: ponygt -
Ka'anapali 501's are my second pair of Maul Jim's and I am sure that they are the second of many.
Maui Jims arent just the best sunglasses they also have the best after sales service that I have experienced in my life from a company. I somehow broke the middle part of the glasses and I took them in. They fixed them no questions asked and and I was out of there in 10 minutes.
Congratulations Maul Jim for producing such a top quality product.

Great glasses ... but
Review by: Calhoun -
they get weak where the screws go directly into the lenses over time, and eventually crack through normal wear and tear there, if any force is exerted on the area around the screws. Optics can't be beat, but the design is not the strongest.

Sunup to sundown
Review by: Knighthawk -
I am a professional driver with over 2.5 MILLION miles behind me. I purchased my Maui Jim's about 5 years ago. NO complaints at all! The only issue is that the nose pieces broke about 2 years ago. However, my repair works for me better than the original design. I simply custom cut and split a piece of small, black tubing and slid it over the edge of the lens. Looks like they came that way! A note on the screw mounting of the temples and bridge: I NEVER use my case! I noticed the possibility of those points being weak and decided to just hang the glasses in whatever vehicle I'm driving. NO problems as of year 5!!! As my title suggests, I wear my glasses from sunrise to sunset, rain, shine, fog, snow, whatever! When the lenses finally become too worn to be used, I will replace them with Maui Jim's... A correction, my style is Ka'anapali 502.

Big Mistake
Review by: Digger -
Wanted the best, and was sold these ....
Many people state best for driving..well make sure they are on before
you start as both hands are required to put on ....
Will not sit on head...
Will not sit on cap....
Can't hang on shirt....
Some contrast distortion...
80 % of the time you lay them down, they end up on the lens ( Balance )...
Suppose to be scratch resistance lens......( Not So)
Very unhappy!!!!(Posted on 11/28/12)
