Overview

Inspired By:

Kahuna, a highly trained expert in an ancient and distinctly Hawaiian craft. Canoe-making. Fishing. Healing. And yes, even surfing. A Maui Jim bestseller for more than 15 years, and a true classic that will stand the test of time.

Perfect for: Outdoor activities or a little beachside rejuvenation — lens treatments and frames are saltwater safe

Design: A bold, modified aviator wrap that offers generous coverage for protection against wind, blowing sand and debris

Shape: Refined rectangular frame complements a range of facial shapes

Care: Maui Jim case and cleaning cloth included

Lenses

Neutral Grey: Perfect for especially bright, direct sunlight. Offers rich color and contrast along with the highest available light production, unlike ordinary grey lenses that flatten light evenly across the spectrum.

HCL® Bronze: For everyday variable conditions, from full sun to overcast. Provides excellent contrast. Great if you love a warm, subtle bronze tint.

PolarizedPlus®2: In every pair of Maui Jims you’ll find our patented, color-infused lens technology that wipes out 99.9% of glare, 100% of harmful UV and boosts color via specially designed lens treatments. So your view is clearer, with crisper contrast and amazing brilliance.

ST (SuperThin) Glass: When clarity is the priority, go with the best optics available. Durable. Scratch resistant. 20% thinner and lighter than standard laminated glass lenses for long-wearing comfort, whether you’re driving or relying on them every day. Three rare earth elements ensure brilliance everywhere you look.

Frame/Fit

FRAME

Material: Monel metal, an extremely strong, corrosion-resistant alloy; with adjustable, metal-core cellulose acetate temple tips for flexibility

Finishing Treatment: Smooth metal, for a strong look and feel; contrasting temple tips feature a sophisticated tortoise shell pattern

Hinge: Anti-corrosive spring that provides flexibility offering a secure, comfortable fit for various face shapes and sizes

Bridge: A saddle-style, double-brow crossbar with non-slip, silicone nose pads for comfort

Designed to look and fit best on: wearers with larger heads and facial features

Drivimg to boating to reeling in the big one
Review by: Wingman

I have had these pair for 4 years. There is not another pair of glasses that can even come close to the quality and performance. Get to a store and try them on. You will be posting I agree with the poster above.

These are the ones I have been waiting for!
Review by: Shonmow

As someone who has only invested in protective eyewear for over 25 years it seems that one company pulls away and in this case it is Maui Jim with the Kahuna.

I have worn everything from Vuarnet to Serengeti s and been pleased with all of them. When it finally does come time to get a new pair, it never fails that the next model seems to be lacking leaving me to seek out another quality product. This time around I tried several brands and believe me neither the sales people nor I were impressed for much different reasons. The moment I put the Kahuna on I knew this was what I was looking for.

Pros:
Fit is very comfortable and stable not tight but fixed for certain
Polarized Lenses are clear, and sharp with very accurate color
Value these glasses are reasonably priced and the quality is obvious

Cons
None so far, however I will update my review should I encounter any.

Kahuna 162 Best
Review by: DaygoRed

I purchased my glasses in 1998 on vacation in Florida and still wear them every day. I wear them driving my car, boating and when I play golf. I would recommend these glasses to anyone and have talked 4 of my friends into buying them also.

The best you can buy
Review by: Paintman

I have owned 3 pair of Kahuna's and still have two pair. I wear one for driving and the other old pair for fishing/boating. I use to buy other glasses but after driving with my first pair I would never ware any other sun glasses because of eye strain. I drive 50,000 + miles a year for work. I have gotten over spray from auto paint on them and it washes off with alcohol with no effect on them. I ruined a pair of my son s Serengeti s doing this because they have plastic lenses in them and it wiped the tint off the lens. Kahuna s are the best!!!!

great glasses
Review by: automatic

these are GREAT glasses, the only complaint i have is if you have large facial cheeks they might touch the lenses causing them to be smudged. otherwise they are amazing. Wearing maui jim glasses is like having god tint your eye ball. i purchased these glasses before setting off on a Caribbean cruise to replace my high end ray-bans. after my two week cruise my ray bans were had been repaired so i wore them again but to my surprise they were so cloudy in comparison to the maui jim's i had to sell them.

Kahuna 162's in Afghanistan
Review by: WattDoctor

I bought my first pair of Kahunas 7 years ago. I needed prescription lenses in those days. I had Lasik eye surgery. So, I sent my Kahunas in to Maui Jim to have the nonprescription lens put in. I wore them every day working as a superintendent on roadway projects. When they were dirty, I would wash them off in the sink. After 7 years of abuse, the frames broke. I sent them in to MJ, and they replaced the frames for $75, and the lens for free because they were still under warranty. Here I am in Afghanistan, and there are 3 things that I don't leave my tent without; my flashlight, my knife, and my Kahunas. I'm a customer for life.
Best Regards,

Great Glasses!
Review by: GaDawg

I have owned many pair of Maui Jims, Costa Del Mar, and Oakleys. All 3 are great companies that make great glasses, but the Kahunas have made me a "strictly Maui Jim guy" from now on. These are the clearest and coolest glasses I've ever owned. A big selling point for me is that they rarely, if ever, fog up like other high end sunglasses. These are well worth the money!

Great but to heavy
Review by: gablo

Bought these sunglasses a couple of days ago, they look great and provide a great vision. The only problem is that they are too heavy and I can not wear them for long period. The problem could be that I also bought a pair of lighthouse that are so light. Any how I will return the glasses and buy a different pair of Maui Jim, probably the Honolulu
