Overview

Inspired By:

The pristine sands of Maui’s Kapalua Beach. Sheltered by a natural lava cove, its shimmering bay offers clear views of butterfly fish, parrotfish and humuhumunukunukuapua’a (the state fish). An MJ classic.

Perfect for: Fast action or everyday wear — lens treatments and frames are saltwater safe

Design: A mid-sized, sporty sunglass crafted of titanium alloy for incredible lightness and rimless for unobstructed views

Shape: Softer, rectangular frame that hugs the head and complements a range of facial shapes

Care: Maui Jim case and cleaning cloth included

Lenses

Neutral Grey: Perfect for especially bright, direct sunlight. Offers rich color and contrast along with the highest available light production, unlike ordinary grey lenses that flatten light evenly across the spectrum.

HCL® Bronze: For everyday variable conditions, from full sun to overcast. Provides excellent contrast. Great if you love a warm, subtle bronze tint

Maui Rose®: For everyday variable conditions, from full sun to overcast. The highest contrast available – excellent for fast moving sports. Provides a subtle rose tint.

PolarizedPlus®2: In every pair of Maui Jims you’ll find our patented, color-infused lens technology that wipes out 99.9% of glare, 100% of harmful UV and boosts color via specially designed lens treatments. So your view is clearer, with crisper contrast and amazing brilliance.

Polycarbonate: When durability and protection against shattering are the priority, choose a lens that stands up to your most intense activities. Scratch- and impact-resistant. Injection molded for crisp optics. With patented lens treatments that infuse your view with vivid color. Your lightest choice for long days in the sun.

CLEARSHELL® Scratch Coating: A proprietary, silicone-based hard coat that protects your lenses. Glass is naturally scratch-resistant but Maui Evolution and polycarbonate lenses perform better longer with the added durability of our optically correct Clearshell. Applied to front and back of the lens.

Frame/Fit

FRAME

Material: Beta-titanium alloy contains extremely lightweight titanium, aluminum and vanadium for maximum strength and flexibility; flexible temples will not kink or break, allowing for easy adjustment

Broken
Review by: Sandy

While excellent quality for walking about, they are almost impossible to put on with one hand. While fishing they are also very difficult to store unless you have brought along the large case. They were broken while trying to put them on with one hand!
These are the third pair I've owned and I wanted to try a pair that was lighter than the other two. Having used and broken them, I would buy a different style.

Twisted and distorted
Review by: BenBenBen

I wanted to like these because I think the design is so simple it's clever but the spring-metal temples simply won't sit straight no matter how I adjust them. The glasses are torqued. I also tried adjusting the bridge piece but it's no use, these things just won't sit straight.

One potential advantage of these is you should be able to smash them fairly flat in your pocket and yet unfold them to wrap around your face -- something you cannot do with a rigid wrap style. They still take more room in a pocket than a pair of rigid flat style glasses like my MJ Beachcombers.

Another problem with these is the polycarbonate lenses. I knew they would be worse than the glass I'm used to but they are noticeably very poor. I tried MJ's new Evolution or Trivex or whatever it is and they were flawed so I can't say they're any better, but they should be.

MJ doesn't polish the edges on the polycarbonate lenses even with rimless designs. Pity such a simple detail is overlooked on rather expensive spectacles.

The nosepads on these are pratical design, very easy to be adjusted many different ways but otherwise rather crude. I suggest examining this detail carefully. I suppose it's owing to the flexibility of the frame.

Great Shades
Review by: ddkfishin

There are great glasses for a more narrow or smaller faced individual. The optics are superb. These are very comfortable to wear because they are so extremely light. The only frustration I experience with them is they at times feel like they are not even on my face. I think it is because the nose pads can be easily moved. Overall, I would absolutely recommend them.

Best Ive Owned
Review by: vanMan

I have owned 3 pairs of these and I keep going back to them. I love that I can put them up on a ball hat in doors. I agree that the only complaint I have is they are soo... light that I forget that I have them on. Is that a bad thing? I love the color in them and like that I can read out doors yet they protect when I am driving. They work great when I wear a helmet on my bike too. The glare protection is outstanding.

Great glasses but delicate and lens break after a
Review by: dhgrimes

These are fantastic glasses but for the price you can do a lot better and have glasses that are much more durable e.g. I have a pair of Serengheti's that is 15 years old and still going strong.

I love the feel and fit of the Mauis but am very disapointed that the lenses are prone to cracking where the nose piece is anchored. For this much money you really expect to get a product that is engineered for longevity and durability. Other that that I am very pleased with the glasses and am sending them off to see how much the repair costs.

If the repari is over 100.00 I doubt I will have them fixed nor will I buy another repair since there are better quality longer lasting designs for 20-50% of the cost of these.

See the photo for defective design and typical failure mode

Best Glasses I've ever owned
Review by: Readyt

Purchased these glasses in 2001 and they are the best glasses I have ever owned but I didn't realize it until I lost them in the Guadalupe River this past August.
So lightweight, you forget they are on. They stay on your head through virtually everything except a waterfall. (How I lost them)
I ve had three issues with these glasses over the years and for $10 Maui Jim has repaired every one of them.
Now that I haven t had them for three months I realize how much my eyes hurt with the other brand "O" of polarized glasses.
Time for me to buy another pair.

hopeful
Review by: miata

I loved my Maui's from years ago but lost them in the Amazon. Finally decided to spring for another pair as no other sunglasses compare. I am worried in reading the reviews about cracked lenses but willing to take the risk - these gasses are worth being able to see optimally!

AWESOME
Review by: MauiJ

These sunglasses are absolutely amazing! I got them last year and still love them today! They are so light you wouldn't even know they are on your face! I would recommend them to anyone, but honestly Maui Jim's are my absolute favorite of any sunglasses.
