One of the best sunglasses on the market!
Review by: Jarrod -
I've owned 3 pairs of these sunglasses and they are one of the best on the market. They are lightweight, fit comfortably when wearing a hat and protect your eyes like no other! I live in S. Florida, so I would highly recommend these glasses if you are exposed to strong sunlight.

Could be the last pair of sunglasses you buy
Review by: JBinDC -
I bought these back in 2004 and they haven't left my side (well, face) since. I'm an avid hiker/biker/runner and had always struggled with sunglasses falling off my face when active... until I picked these up. Try as you like, absolutely nothing will separate you from your Kapalua's. Not only do they stay put over your eyes, they also stick tight to your head when not in use. Hands down the best pair of sunglasses I've ever owned.

Maui Jims are the best!
Review by: whatever -
I love the lightness of these glasses on my nose and ears; I forget that I'm wearing them.
I've had both the Bronze and Rose lenses. The bronze lenses are great for really sunny days and really make everything you're looking at more vibrant.
The rose are just as good but I like wearing them when when I don't want as intense of an experience.
The other thing I like about Maui Jims is that when I've had to repair the lenses (which on these happens after a couple years of wear - right around the nose area - stress fractures appear), Maui Jim has an awesome repair policy. I just send my glasses in and they replace the lenses (or sometimes even the frames too) and you get them back in a couple of days. Last time it cost me $70 ($10 for shipping and $30 per each lens).
When you pay $250 to $300 on sunglasses you want them to last a long time. Now I just pay $70 every two or three years for practically brand new Maui Jims. It's well worth the money.
Their staff is always overly helpful and they always want to make their customers happy. I even once asked them if they could replace the lenses with a different tint and they said it was no problem at all.
Great customer support - I will always recommend Maui Jims and when I buy new sunglasses they are always Maui Jims!(Posted on 11/28/12)

Great Sunglasses, but will fracture!
Review by: dworthb -
I have owned these sunglasses for approximately 7 years and have had to send them back for repair at least 7 or 8 (I lost count) times due to the lens fracturing at the nose(due to stress). Maui Jim will repair and return, but for the price of the sunglasses they need to last longer than a couple months before they begin to fracture, again. Great sunglasses, but they are fragile.

Comfortable and lightweight. It gets the job done
Review by: Satsuma -
The neutral-gray lens are perfect for Oahu driving conditions where it could be bright and sunny on leeward, but cloudy and showery on windward. Recommended for outdoor activities as well because of the frames. I don't have much of a nose bridge, so these frames hook behind my ears and help keep the glasses on my face.
Although I originally purchased these because the retailer recommended them for golf, I actually prefer to use them for driving. The contrast is outstanding, as advertised, and works for driving directly in to the sun, provides clarity in the rain and lower visibility conditions, and keeps the glare low in all-around conditions to allow you to see the traffic ahead. I can keep them on during any driving condition during daylight and feel confident about the visibility, clarity, and contrast.
I tried them for golfing, but because I have the gray lens, I found them to be a too dark late in the day. It isn't a function of the glasses themselves, but the color of lens so that isn't criticism. Just keep that in mind if you also golf later in the afternoon. If you intend to use them for golfing, consider a different lens color.
They are a bit more expensive than other sunglasses, but I find the Kapalua to be a good value with high quality. I have worn them for more than three years and have not had the stress fracture problems that others are reporting. I also have a pair of Ray-Bans that I take on travel (I had a pair of MJs stolen while overseas, so don't take them on business anymore) but those lens began to scratch on the interior within a year or two. These MJ lens. on the other hand, have held up well.
If you have the budget to spend a little extra for a good pair of sunglasses, I think these are one of the best choices out there.(Posted on 11/28/12)

Incredible vision clarity
Review by: Live4thebeach -
I recently bought a pair with the rose tinted lens and have been extremely pleased with the clarity and contrast provided by the lense. I have dropped them twice, on concrete, and the lens did not scratch, no visible marks at all. They are light weight to the point I forget I have them on. I am very pleased with this purchase and plan on buying additional MJ sunglasses.

Worth the price
Review by: Puentetwin -
My eyes are very sensitive to glare, but I am really picky about my sunglasses--I can't wear glasses that rest on my face, slide down my nose, feel heavy after a few hours, or stretch out after years of wear. Maui Jim's Kapalua glasses are perfect for me. I've owned them (in rose lens) for nearly 10 years, and they combine protection with style. They are so light, they don't slide off my nose (even when I sweat), and I love the rose color of the lens. Glare? What glare?
What's even better is the customer service provided by Maul Jim. I wear these glasses every single day for hours, and after about 5 years, the bridge on my pair snapped in half due to stress. I sent the glasses to Maui Jim, and they fixed them for less than $50. But before they returned them, a technician called me to let me know that she found a couple of scratches on one of the lens, so she decided to replace both lens. How awesome is that? I will never own another brand of sunglasses.(Posted on 11/28/12)

Wish there was a maybe choice
Review by: charp920 -
I was given these glasses as a gift slightly less than a year ago. I now have two cracks where the screws connect the nose bridge. I sent them back today. There are several internet articles about this problem. So, I can't really rate until I see what they do about the common problem. Will report back when they contact me.

Select a different style
Review by: Ecto08 -
I was really excited when I ordered these sunglasses. I will admit they were the most expensive sunglasses I had ever purchased, but after trying on my son's pair I knew I would not regret the expense. Because of the cost, I was very careful with them and stored them in the cleaning cloth and hardcover box when I was not wearing them. Much to my dismay, about 8 months after purchasing, cracks showed up in both lenses where the nose piece is attached. I paid shipping to return them to Maui Jim for repair, and enclosed the mandatory $10 repair fee. They totally replaced the lenses and shipped them back. Now less than a year after the original repair one of the lenses has cracked completely through by the nose piece. I am a woman in my 50's, so believe me... this is not due to rough play or any kind of over exertion. I will probably send them back for repair again (given the price of the sunglasses), but meanwhile, I am going to order a different style. Before the problem began, they were lightweight and provided excellent protection and vision, and I could truly say they were the best sunglasses I had ever owned until they began to crack.

My first favorites
Review by: StephW -
These sunglasses are what started my Maui Jim obsession. The lightest pair of sunglasses I have ever tried on. I have two pairs (different colors), one dating back to 2004. The 7yrs old pair have not shown any cracks, as others here have mentioned. I only have scratches on the lenses from dropping them too many times. And trust me I don't exactly baby my sunglasses. I've drop them and sit on them just like everyone else. These however seem to be very malleable and tend to take a bit of abuse before breaking.
I've outgrown the style, but they will always be one of my favorites. I intend to send back my first pair to have the lenses replaced eventually.(Posted on 11/28/12)
