Overview

Inspired By:

Oahu’s tranquil Makaha Valley. Look up to the magnificent Waianae mountain range to see waterfalls. Look out to the west to see the sun set over the Pacific.

Progressive, competitive and comfortable. You’re a blur of activity. But these cutting-edge, sporty frames offer clear, unobstructed views of your world in motion.

Perfect for: Fast-action sports or re-energizing on the shore — lens treatments and frames are saltwater safe

Design: Ultra-modern with a rimless frame for an unobstructed view, as well great coverage for protection against wind, blowing sand and debris

Shape: Refined rectangular frame complements a range of facial shapes

Lenses

Neutral Grey: Perfect for especially bright, direct sunlight. Offers rich color and contrast along with the highest available light production, unlike ordinary grey lenses that flatten light evenly across the spectrum.

HCL® Bronze: For everyday variable conditions, from full sun to overcast. Provides excellent contrast. Great if you love a warm, subtle bronze tint.

Maui HT™: High-Transmission for times when most lenses would be too dark — sharper contrast and more vibrant color for early morning, late afternoon and foggy days. Heightens contrast and depth of field so that low light is perceived with new vibrancy.

PolarizedPlus®2: In every pair of Maui Jims you’ll find our patented, color-infused lens technology that wipes out 99.9% of glare, 100% of harmful UV and boosts color via specially designed lens treatments. So your view is clearer, with crisper contrast and amazing brilliance.

Polycarbonate: When durability and protection against shattering are the priority, choose a lens that stands up to your most intense activities. Scratch- and impact-resistant. Injection molded for crisp optics. With patented lens treatments that infuse your view with vivid color. Your lightest choice for long days in the sun.

CLEARSHELL® Scratch Coating: A proprietary, silicone-based hard coat that protects your lenses. Glass is naturally scratch-resistant but Maui Evolution and polycarbonate lenses perform better longer with the added durability of our optically correct Clearshell. Applied to front and back of the lens.

I have a bronze HCL pair of Makahas'. I love them. After a while, being a huge hammock reader, I bought the same glasses in a 2X magnification. They easily replaced my prescription eyeglasses for outdoor reading. I am picky, & Maui Jim makes the best!!!

I have enjoyed my Maui Jim Makaha Reader's very much! While riding on my Harley, I do not need to stop and change glasses to see the GPS. This was such a problem in the past, and the GLARE is non-existant when viewing my gauges. I have tried Oakley's, and I currently have a pair, but Maui Jim's are a win-win combination. You need to market your glasses to the bikers ( I did not see that listed as an option in Activities), for they fit great, and are comfortable.

Many guys and gals have noticed my shades, and I let them try on the Oakley's then my Maui Jims....it is hard to get my Maui jims back!!

Great all around
Review by: Bob292

At 50 I need all the help I can get! These are perfect for reading or even driving when you have to look at a map. I have been a Maui Jim fan for years and these are up to the same high standards. Like any sunglasses it is difficult to read computers/pda's etc but these sure beat wearing your readers under your sunglasses!

Enjoying life after 60
Review by: rmorgan

After wearing and loving a pair of Big Kahunas for over 7 years, I found I needed a little help reading small print. So, it was off with the Maui Jim's and on with the reading glasses. Since I live in Hawaii where the sun always shines, I found myself switching glasses a dozen or more times a day. Then I heard about the Maui Readers. After an hour or so getting used to the bi-focal aspect of my new Makaha Readers, I was hooked. Especially at the beach. No more acting the buffoon with my reading glasses on the end of my nose over my Maui Jim's while reading in the glaring sun. I can even see the various smaller gauges in my car now while driving. Even checking the time on my watch now has become a breeze! Thanks Maui Jim!

style conscience w/need of reading
Review by: flygirl50

Need alittle help with reading and was delighted when I found a high end sunglass with style. Got the black and the clarity of everything is so good, what a difference between what I had and what I bought. I am able to see if I'm looking at a map or checking a text. Not driving of course. Also the weight is so light I feel like I have nothing on my face. LOVE THEM!

Worth The Investment
Review by: Atascocita46

After getting my new contacts, my eye doctor recommended Maui Jim sunglasses specifically because they have the readers on the bottom of the lenses. I'd never heard of sunglasses like that before and when I tried them I found they were instantly comfortable, very stylish and do exactly what they're supposed to do for me when I read something close while wearing them. The flexible stems and rubber nose pads are great because the glasses fit from the first wearing, no break-in time needed. I highly recommend these sunglasses to anyone who needs that extra help with near vision.

DISAPOINTED - bad lenses fix - broken lense
Review by: pcs21

In fact the glasses are very "sexy": design, view, weight.
However for "sport glasses" it doesn't match with the brand. Bought these glasses less than a year and half. Just did 1 week normal ski and daily use mainly in weekends, since then.

Last week the left lense broke in the frame fixing - see pictures.

Can't do much since I do not have proof of purchasing, done in January 2009 in Les Gets - French Alps and I leave in Portugal - Lisbon. It is a pitty and besides the glasses are not cheap!

Fantastic Glasses!
Review by: Pablo

I've always had to take off my sunglasses and put on readers to look at anything up close when outside. Now, I can keep the sunglasses on! No issues getting used to reading lenses. The only very small issue is a reflection off the top of the reader lens in very bright sunlight.
I already had Makahas and I love the lightweight frame and lens shape.
My readers are the black frames with gray lenses and 150 power.
I now use my regular Makahas in bronze for conditions that have medium light but a lot of reflectivity like driving in snowy conditions.
