Maui Jim began in the 1980s as a small company selling sunglasses on Ka'anapali Beach in Lahaina, Maui. Recognizing the need for lenses that could protect against intense tropical glare and UV while revealing the island's brilliant colors in full, Maui Jim's founders engineered what would become PolarizedPlus2: a lens technology unlike anything on the market.
